Pine Lake Georgia is known for its active community of artists, beautiful small lake, and quirky homes of all sizes. Started as a vacation fishing village early in the 20th century, the area began to
attract new permanent home owners in the 1990s. Pine Lake is located east of Atlanta, in DeKalb County, about 4 miles from Stone Mountain Park.
Many of the older homes were owner built and began life as one room cottages. Most of these have been expanded into 2 or 3 BR homes and often feature heart pine floors, stone fireplaces, and paneled walls. Other homes were built by builders from modern home plans.
Artists of all kind call Pine Lake home, including acoustic musicians and writers (some known world wide), potters ,fabric artists, and wood workers. Artist made crafts are on display at the annual Lake Fest which is held each fall. A children’s summer day camp and a monthly concert are also held at
the beach house.
The city recently had a wetlands constructed on the east side of the lake to naturally filter the water of Snapfinger Creek as it comes into the lake. Swimming is allowed during the summer, when the lake water is tested for cleanliness. There is a small sand beach, nature paths through the lake and wetlands, and a beach house.
Pine Lake prides itself on its friendliness and a neighbors association plans potlucks, game nights and other events that help people get to know one another. For more information visit
